A bit cold out here for the sunrise! Jan 7,2012. Sure has been some time since we posted. ( Blame Facebook!) Here is hoping for continued posts in this the new year 2012!!! Here the kids are looking for the otters that Eugenie, Samira and I saw on the last sunrise of 2011 a week ago. What a difference a week makes. Brrrrrrrrrr!

If you are interested or need a giggle---follow the links to view a little preformer you know or are related to- this was soooo fun to see. Thunders class was fundraising for a project to help build schools for children in Kenya and they held a preformance evening- in french- the three little pigs. Thunder is the straw pig! Hopefully you would be able to pick him out as he does shine through as his enthusiastic self.

One of the parents placxed this on you tube---it may be time sensitive as one of the parents is surly anti internet with her kids ---so it may be removed?

Thunder had a great time at the Art camp he went to this week. He said it was the "Best Yet" - on the first day. What a nice time. He biked there every day and came home with 6 great artworks to put up on the toy room walls. Firday there was a small performance of what they classes had worked on through the week. Thunder giggled when re- telling how the music instructor said to the parents that the girls and BOY were going to sing a song.

The class was asked to make vests with 10 groups of 10 items to mark the occaision of 100 days of Kindergarten. It was a fun day, Thunders vest is seen here. He completed a treasure hunt of sorts to add things to his vest. He had rocks in his pockets, Bagugans on his back, photos, strawberries, triangle, connects toys, pennies and flowers- what fun! ( also egg cartons- to hold the bagugans)

Happy New Year! Here are photos from a walk up the hills behind Thetis Lake Park. Thunder and Ocean had fun riding on a horsey log. Running up and down steep hill, petting dogs, and with a picnic at the top of the mountain.

Turning 5!

Thunder really enjoyed turning 5. As is customary in his life- we celebrated on his Birthday. He had a party with some of his friends. His party was at the Swan Lake Nature Sanctuary and included being able to feed turtles and ducks, hold salamanders and snakes, watch a toad and turtle eat a worm, as well as other interesting tidbits. The interpreter was wonderful and the kids ( as well as parents who stayed along ) thought he was great. Grandma and Grandpa came along to help and bring a delicious cake too! Aunt Laura and Jason came over for the night and lended a hand at the party and afterward. Thunder chose wendys ( !!! ) for lunch and shared with other customers that it was his 5 year birthday- TODAY! We skyped grammie belle and grampie fred and watched grampie fred make some funny faces from the hotel Laura and Jason were staying at. Thunder recounted his funniest gift- socks and underwear from the Hatfields which made him laugh at breakfast. Guess he wasn't expecting that at all. Nor was I - as it made me laugh out loud too. He had so much fun with a whole bunch of gifts and seemed though everything he hoped for he received.

The anticipation was really too much for him, all week he was counting down to the big day. One night( four more days ) he arose every 10- 15 minutes asking is it morning yet? Well, Mark brought him to TOYS R US to look and choose a gift from his dad- so that he could think about that instead of what he might see on his day! Seemed to sleep the nights following. So he is five- five five five- LIVE IT UP!

How long before he starts asking about being six?

Playing on the shore line...

Wittys Lagoon is one of my all time favorite places to spend a day. When you park at the Nature House, and take the trail down to the beach- it is ever changing. This last time while we passed the Sitting Lady Falls waterfall, the kids were less interested than other times. But thats ok, off we headed and found so many slugs. Slugs Slugs Slugs, wrapped around leaves, hiding under leaves, even ( slowly) making their way accross the footpaths. Then I was surprised at how MANY apple trees loaded with apples there were closer to the beach. Tastey too. We all enjoyed them. Of course the blackberries were plentiful along the path. Ocean and I separated from Mark and Thunder as she was too interested in watching the snail cross. The boys had made the way to the beach and found crabs already by the time we connected again. THe kids left after much sandy play and then it was off to catch grasshoppers in the tall grasses before heading up the path again. Lots of fun and LEARNING along the way.

Well he did it- learned how to ride a bike this summer thanks to peddalheads (camp). We were looking at this again the other night when I caught Mark giggling. Whatso funny? Mark pointed out, look at his super cool bad@#$ shirt. Now look at the bike. Some day he will laugh too.

This shirt by the way was the full on choice of his own. This was the day I realized even if i wanted to, I could no longer just pick his clothes for him. ( Although 99 % of his full near five years of wardrobe has come from my parents via frenchies! Thank you Hatfields) We were at a shop and I found what I thought was a great shirt for him. Save the strings prgram fundraising shirt from a few years back. Jimmy Wrights Polar Bear image on a brightly colored cloth. Thunder looked at it. Hmmm, mom- I want to see that one? Which one? Yeah that one, with the flames on it. Thats cool. There is also some sort of space traveler on the front. He does love it.

This morning on her birthday, she's 2!! I let her open some markers for her birthday before everyone arrived. Thought I would occupy her a little so that I could finish tidying. Once I was in the washroom, she decided to move on to demonstrate her interest in art...Here is an image of her proud drawing - ON THE WALL! Argh, i was happy to not lose it first thing in the am and manages to pull off an ITS BEAUTIFUL. I think I even surprised Thunder, because then I saw she had marked all over her brother- while sleeping too. Look out future sororities/ residence prankster in the making.

Ocean is talking so much these days. It is proving quite entertaining, as well as the obvious- functional. She can tell us what happened when something is wrong. She will ask for what she would like for breakfast- coo- key. Yes Peas.

This weekend we went on a farm drive through Saanich to Deep Cove back through Sidney. In Deep Cove when we saw a mother horse with a baby horse we decided to show Ocean up close. We used to do that ALOT with Thunder, so out we get while Mark carried on a short way to the farm stand. Ocean and Thunder were delighted petting the little ones nose and mane. Attempting to give it grass and clover -both of which it showed no interest in. The mother horse was ignoring us- eating away and well, doing her business. When she headed back to the barn, the little one ran after her too. Ocean loved it.

Once back in the car Ocean kept repeating mama poo. Mark, Thunder and I would giggle, because it was pretty outlandish- I didnt even have gas! Mark asked her- Oh does mom have to go to the washroom? No Ocean says. She continues, mama horse big poo.

Of all the things she could share with her dad about the horse viewing?

Oh and on the map, Mark went to# 19.

Lizzard Lake! Seriously- there are little lizzards in it that pop up for air. ( swim up ) Ckildren everywhere at the lake catching them and putting them in buckets. Too fun. We caught a few. Thunder and OCean loved handling them and putting them in the water. We were glad that Ocean fell asleep on the drive as it prompted mark to continue driving to see how far we would get- LIZZARD LAKE! Too busy having fun to photograph with the cell phone camera. Another time?

Trip to Gabriola Island to visit Tracey, Billy, and Rosebud

We were lucky enough to get a visit in with Tracey and Billy before the summer zipped by. Gabriola Island was a treat, Tracey took us to a lot of Beaches with beautiful rock formations, shorelines and sea life to explore. I think Thunder and Ocean had a blast. They even looked at the recycle depots thrift shop and found some trinkets. Ocean LOVED spending time with their dog Rosebud. Thunder- who is usually apprehensive around dogs- seemed to really enjoy her company toward the end of the visit. I enjoyed watching this process. Thunder played his first full game of checkers with Tracey- who won! ( He tells me each time I recount the stories of his trip with him)

Pretty Blues at the beach.We finally were able to get Aunt Laura to the glass beach in Sidney. We had tried before without success. It is one of Thunders fav. spots in Sidney. We have brought home so many pieces of beach glass that we dont know what to do with them...now we choose a number at the beginning of the search to agree on before starting and only take that many.

Ocean Making faces- again!

Aunt Laura visited and on the way back to the ferry we took her to Sidney by The Sea- We took in some of the second hand thrift stores. Laura and Thunder found a large box of Hot Wheels and tracks which Laura bought for him.... Good idea to do it as she is leaving! So hard to figure out without the instructions..Ha Ha . We separated on the walk back. First we followed the arrows in reverse, but Thunder wanted to go up a hill instead. Ocean wants to do everything her brother does. Grandma went the safer way, and then had to bush whack our way through to the other side in order to help Thunder and Ocean through to the park site.

We biked for 12 kms on fathers day along the lochside-galloping goose trails. Nice long ride, before heading over to grandmas and grandpas for dinner. Here are some of the photos. Yes one more thing about that last day of Preschool....Thunder is seen here receiving an award from ECE Jill( N.S. connections here...) Each student left with a poster of their photos, work stories etc...and an award suited to each individual. Thunder looks uncomfortable here waiting to hear what it will be- THE SHOW AND TELL AWARD. Jill went on to talk about how every day, I mean EVERY day when Thunder would arrive he would have something he has brought for show and tell. Surprisingly there was only two of his items in the lost and found at the end of the year. ( dino cards and a transformer type figure) Maybe I will collect the various photos I took of circle time and post them to show all of his treasures in his hands. The bottom photo is a bunch of the kids looking a book after the last day.

Thunders run at preschool is almost up- only a fun day, firehall field trip and three more classes. What a run it has been. He has soared at making friends. His first year we would have so much art coming home on a regular basis- huge paper paintings, papers with cuts practiced on them, tons on gluey blotches and more. This year we received a few- really fun pieces he used a pipette with. More and more this year was devoted to the friendship making and the " good guy vs bad game" ( insert super hero of the day). yesterday was sibling day, the two of them had fun- Thunder off with a best friend, and OCean with me and all the stuff. It seemed that the preschoolers who had younger siblings wanted to carry on with thier own ideas of what the day should look like, where as the ones who were the younger sibling and who had brought their big brother or sister wanted to stick by them and show them around. I was thinking ahead to Oceans potential experience bringing Thunder to sibling day and how different it might be?

A Stranger Kindness

After running an errand at a local drug store the other evening, Thunder asked to have a loonie for this ride. Next thing Thunder knows, a stranger passing by handed him a looney and said "Here you go bud!" Thunder exclaimed THANKS and hopped on the clown fish. Ocean on the other hand, FUSSED WHEN I TRIED TO PLACE HER ON THE SEAHORSE, which was closest. All the while saying tutel tudel. TUDEL? Oh- TURTLE. She wanted to ride on TURTLE...You cant imagine her delight when we figured that out.

Thunder has been ill for over a week, so it was great to get out Friday evening and attend the CARNIVAL hosted by the school he will be attending Kindergarten at next year.

Above are photos at the bouncy castle- which I am glad to say he did not get ill in.

there were also pony rides, but Thunder chose instead to wait in the line up for these bouncing opportunities- OVER and OVER.

He picked up some 25 cent books at the sale table- spider man and a space one. He also helped himself to a cupcake. ( He was not aware that it was a game- for a cupcake walk.) No one minded . I think we all left still very happy with our decision to enroll him at this school.

THUNDER RECENTLY WENT TO THE LOCAL PLAYGROUND AND RAN INTO BATMAN. Turned out to be his new friend- Logan in diguise. They had a great time and arranged to see each other again soon, last weekend Logan family invited us to join along on a lunch trip to Barns Fish and Chips at Fishermans wharf. The outfit Ocean is wearing was sent to us by my parents when we were expecting....THUNDER. It has been in the closet since then and mothers day dinner seemed a good enough occaision to shake the dust off and try it on.Fit well I would say.

I laugh each time I see this picture - Thunder figured out how to slurp up spaghetti noodles.

We have been spending more time in the back yard as we captured a swarm of bees and have been enjoying watching them settle in ( we hope) to our hive. This afternoon, I had a bunch of my older lenses out to play with. Harder as the weight is greater and the focus is manual. Seems I have become a little used to the do everything digital format than I would like. Well I was so happy with these images of Thunder- not to omention so much else of what I captured that day....

Here is his beautiful eyes, lashes and freckles, gaze out the window and not mention the interesting way he held his hand in front of his face leaving only one eye peering out half a smile and an ear. Another kiss to younger sister, Oceans foot.

Ocean Loves to roar these days...here is a photo of her mouth getting ready to roar. Also a kiss from her Big Brother Thunder, looking out the window at the new bees ( see photos at howdoesyourgardengrow2) and her oh so blonde brow.

She is fascinated with bubbles- gum or soap, here Mark caught her trying to get the one I am blowing. Each time she would say gan ( her way to say again) and each time she would be as delighted and surprised as the first.

Tree Fort Decorating

Well the fun continues with the treefort,

This morning I asked Thunder if he felt like it was completed or if there was more to do...

he felt there was more to do. Perhaps uncle Chris will help while on Vacation here this weekend?Thunder has started to decorate the fort to his liking, I will post some of those images.

He hopes for a slide on one end of the jumping platform. He also no longer needs a ladder to get up into it- which is aiding in my stress reduction when outside as Ocean finds it more difficult to get up and therefore only does so when I can assist. Whew...

Ocean is enjoying the treefort too...Also loving ther airplane swing given to her last summer by Perzia ( Well I suppose from all of Silas' family- Simone had outgrown it) Ocean seems to like Simone as much as Thunder likes Silas... Thunder and I asken Ocean to repeat our words one day... We asked can you say Simone Ocean repeated moan moan moan - we said can you say Silas? She said - BONE. Well we had a real good giggle over that one.

Well thunder is becoming more and more confident climbing trees and esp this structure- he is going higher and higher each time. We still have some major reinforcing to do. Esp as it seems he sprouts up daily....
